Dear Jerome,
Thank you for taking the time to come in yesterday so that we could review your current health issues. I have studied your notes and would like to make a few suggestions that I think would be useful at this time The chemotherapy protocol that you are on is very familiar to modern Chinese medicine. This is because it is used in China as well. In addition, Chinese patients have available to them complimentary treatments that enhance the value of the chemotherapy and help mitigate some of the side effects. This combination is referred to as "integrative therapy". One of the unique contributions of Chinese medicine in the treatment of cancer is the clinical observation that the "timing" of administering medicine has an influence on how well it will work in your body. Chrono-biological research is the name given to this area of medicine. The 21 day protocol that you are on is divided up into three parts. Each part is unique in terms of its therapeutic goals for you. I will briefly outline the main points for each part so that you can begin to organize what you do in ways that reflect the intentions of each part. Please be as creative as you can with these suggestions as even "little" things make a difference in healing from cancer. The first round of chemo will overlap with the radiation therapy. Therefore the parts 1,2,and 3 are somewhat different than the dosages in round 2 of chemo without the radiation therapy. I have differentiated dosages in chemo round 2 with ( ).
Part One - This is day of chemo to day four. The essential effort during these several days is to enhance your circulation throughout your body. Chemotherapy drugs are dependent upon your blood circulation to carry it throughout your body. In this way it will encounter cancer cells wherever it goes. If there are areas of your body for whatever reason have poorer or less than optimal circulation than these areas will be somewhat undeserved by the chemotherapy. For example areas of your body where there has been previous surgery, scar tissues and injuries are areas where blood circulation may be inhibited. In addition areas of your body that you hold tension such as the lower back and neck may also be areas where circulation is poor. So the goal in part one is to use such techniques as imagery, visualizations and qi-gung to improve your circulation. Part One is a time to be restful, low key and minimize stress. Standing on line at the post office, being in traffic, entertaining and even watching the "news" may all be examples for you that counter your ability to relax.
Part Two - These are days six through 11. At this time in your treatment the chemotherapy working very diligently on your behalf is killing numerous cells. These dead cells are piling up in your system and need to be removed. You do have organ systems that are well designed for this assignment, however the amount of dead cells accumulating often exceeds your natural ability to "cleanse' them out of your system. Therefore the main goal in this part is to assist your body in discharging and cleansing. In this way these dead cells will not be in the way of your next round of therapy. If you are doing imagery or visualizations then the emphasis shifts to address these new goals. As you will see in the herbal and supplement suggestions that follow, these shift also to adjust to this new part. Cleansing can also be figurative as well. Anything that you do during this part that helps you get rid of things is useful. For example, cleaning out closets and the garage, completing projects and unfinished and unresolved issues in your personal or business relationships.
Part Three - These are days 12 to 21. During this time your blood counts will start to come up and much of your physiology will begin to normalize. You will feel better and start to have more energy than you felt in the previous weeks. The goal at this time is to strengthen and enhance your immune system. Everything that you do should begin to reflect this. Engaging in activities that truly make you feel good and make you feel genuinely happy have a big priority at this time. If you can avoid using this time to "catch up" with activities and working overtime that is ideal.

- Many of the above listed items are in powder form as straight powder or in capsules. These can be emptied and blended into a soy or fruit based "shake" or "smoothie" with added protein powder. In this way it is easy to take this number of items as well as obtain necessary calories and fluids. Keep your fluids up as much as possible.
- "Strengthening Your Immune System through Mind and Movement" is an excellent video that is worth obtaining. These simple exercises based upon the therapeutic principles of Chinese qi-gung are very effective. (800)308-5518
- Acupuncture is useful in part III
- Excellent topical radiation burn ointment is called "Mei-Po" Apply after radiation is finished for the day. You can do 1 to 3 applications. (800)457-5708
